Do you love the ocean and want to help connect our community to it? Join O’Neill Sea Odyssey (OSO), a Santa Cruz–based nonprofit that provides free, hands-on ocean education to 4th–6th grade students aboard our 65-foot catamaran on Monterey Bay.
We’re looking for a Science Outreach & Engagement Coordinator to help expand our impact through storytelling, collaboration, and community action. This part-time role is perfect for a creative communicator who is passionate about environmental education, civic engagement, and making the coast more accessible for all.
What you’ll do:
- Create and manage digital content (website, social media, newsletters)
- Build public awareness through storytelling, visuals, and events.
- Recruit and support volunteers who power our mission.
- Strengthen community partnerships and represent OSO at local events.
- Help grow our visibility and support in the Santa Cruz community.
What we’re looking for:
- 2+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or outreach.
- Strong writing, speaking, and storytelling skills.
- Familiarity with social media, Canva/Adobe Creative Suite, and CRM systems.
- Background in environmental, marine, or biological sciences (preferred).
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred
Details:
- Part-time (approx. 24 hrs/week), flexible schedule M–F 9am–3pm, occasional weekends.
- $30–$35/hr depending on experience.
- Work at the OSO Education Center in Santa Cruz Harbor, plus occasional time aboard the Team O’Neill catamaran.
