đŸ§č Cleanup for the Coast: Make a Difference in Your Community!

Grades: All Grades

🌊 Purpose

Did you know that trash from streets and schools can end up in the ocean—even if you don’t live near the beach? By organizing a cleanup at your school, neighborhood, watershed, or beach, you can help protect wildlife, reduce pollution, and keep your community beautiful.

đŸ§Œ Step 1: Choose Your Cleanup Spot

Pick a place that needs your help—your schoolyard, local park, nearby beach, or a spot in your neighborhood or watershed.

đŸ€ Step 2: Team Up with a Local Organization (Optional)

You can partner with awesome groups like Save Our Shores, Surfrider, or the Coastal Watershed Council to help plan and learn more about pollution.

đŸ§€ Step 3: Get Your Supplies Ready

Make a list and gather what you need:

  • Trash bags or buckets

  • Gloves

  • Hand sanitizer

  • First aid kit

  • Buckets or grabbers (optional)

🔁 Step 4: Sort & Track the Trash

Plan how you’ll sort recyclables from regular trash.
Use a Trash Log to track what types of waste you collect—this helps you see what’s most common and where change is needed!

📱 Step 5: Share What You Found

Present your results to your school or another class. You’ll help raise awareness and inspire others to care for the planet too!

✅ Step 6: Complete the SAP Google Form

Don’t forget to fill out the Student Action Project Google Form to celebrate and share your impact!
