After the Marine Science station, students will:

a better understanding of basic biological concepts.
- Realize that teamwork and communication are important
during field observations
- Exercise classroom math skills in an outdoor marine environment
- Identify various types of phytoplankton and zooplankton
and understand their role in the food chain
- Learn about the life cycles of certain types of holoplankton
and meroplankton
- Become aware that a unique chemical and physical balance
helps maintain life in the marine environment
- Develop an appreciation for the living ocean thru hands-on
research and education
- Attempt to observe, analyze and understand trends in
data
After the Ecology Science station, students will:
- Become familiar with the unique flora and fauna of the
Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary
- Know what special values and resources the Monterey Bay
National Marine Sanctuary holds
- Understand the responsibilities of humans toward other
life forms
- Identify current environmental issues in the sanctuary
- Become aware of watershed runoff and its impact on the
Monterey Bay region
- Realize that the sanctuaries are designed for the long-term
protection of resources and the environment
After the Sailing and Navigation station, students will:
- Demonstrate teamwork and communication skills as they
hoist the mainsail, acquire compass bearings and carry out
chart work
- Discover that math skills are used in real life applications
- Learn to observe, enter, categorize and analyze data
- Realize that technology is an important part of sailing and science
- Acquire basic sailing knowledge during their voyage
